Sarah Matthews: ‘Only a Matter of Time Before Pete Hegseth Is Either Impeached or Fired’

‘I think that the Trump Administration and Trump are probably a little hesitant to fire him, because then it looks like the war with Iran was a mistake’

MATTHEWS: “I think it’s inevitable and only a matter of time before Pete Hegseth is either impeached or fired or forced to resign. I think that the Trump Administration and Trump are probably a little hesitant to fire him, because then it looks like the war with Iran was a mistake, and I know that Trump doesn’t like giving the other side that kind of win and acknowledging it. And so he usually -- his instinct is to dig his heels in. But I think that they need a fall guy. Look, just politically speaking, they need someone to pin the blame on considering that the war with Iran was one of the things that voters were very angry about, they felt like this president went back on his word when he said he was going to be the peace president and wouldn’t get us into another endless war in the Middle East. And I think there’s plenty of reasons, though, that Pete Hegseth deserves to be impeached. I think back to Signalgate and him texting war plans. I think of the military bombing these alleged drug boats in the Caribbean and east Pacific. There’s a lot of questionable things he’s done during his tenure. But then obviously, this botched handling of the war with Iran and there being really no exit strategy or any strategy at all for, I believe, why we’re there -- why we attacked them in the first place. So I think that if Trump wanted to kind of maybe curry some favor with these voters who obviously sent a resounding rebuke of his presidency, offering up a firing of Pete Hegseth could be that and would spare him the impeachment, because I think, obviously, when the next Congress is sworn in, that is going to happen if Trump doesn’t fire him.”
