Mick Mulvaney on Whether the Midterms Were a Rebuke of Trump’s Policies: ‘How Could It Not Be?’

‘Looks to me like white rural America just told Donald Trump to take a hike’

EXCERPT:

VARNEY: "Now, who do you blame for the Republican rout? Was it a rebuke of Trump and his policies?”
MULVANEY: “How could it not be? Look, the president gets — gets credit for the wins, he takes blame for the losses. That’s the way it goes. The war was his idea. The tariffs were his idea. Look, he’s right in saying that he was a better candidate than some of the folks out there. I mean, he’s probably one of the best candidates the Republicans have had in a generation. But all those bad candidates were his handpicked candidates. I mean, you know, look, I’m from South Carolina. Darline Graham may have been the single worst possible Republican we could have put on the ticket. Everything has to go wrong in South Carolina for the Democrats to win that Senate seat. And it did. So I hear the president saying the candidates were bad, and that’s right. But look, they were his candidates."
