AG Blanche on Trump’s Pardons of Jan.6 Rioters Amid Violent Crime Initiative: That’s a Power That Is Reserved to the President’
RUSH EXCERPT:
BLANCHE: "So the power of talked. About this at Nazi I’m, but I’m happy to say it again. The power to pardon is not something. That’s given to anybody either me or anybody behind me. Our constitution gives it to the present that the United States- and they didn’t give it to President Trump. It gave it to every single president, and so every president, in history, including present by on his last few days in office, pardoned commuted thousands of criminals, including violent criminals, and that is a a power that is reserved in full to the present the United States and when he chooses to exercise in the manner that he chooses to do so. the Constitution doesn’t doesn’t limit that that and so- and I do think I do think, it’s absolutely consistent to say we want to make America safe again and that we’re going to bring violent crime down, especially in places like that ruse and still allow the the president to exercise it’s authority under the United States constitution. There’s nothing inconsistent what those ideas so, while while we’re out every day and and and casting made reference to this and it’s worth saying again it matters when you see violent crime rates, murder rates. Sexual assaults burglaries going from this level to this level. Does that mean we won know, but does that mean we’re bringing crime down, bringing violent crime down? It is actually what what it means we’re going to do, we’re not going to stop doing it, and so investing in cities like button and rouge that have made a commitment to partner with us is is completely consistent with this administration’s message."
