Talarico: Trump Has Done a Better Job than Biden in Securing Our Border, But Voters Were Upset by Some of the ICE Extremism
EXCERPT:
TALARICO: “My family is from South Texas. My mom is from Laredo on our southern border. So I know the area well. I went down there a lot. I showed up, which is something a lot of national Democrats stopped doing. We took the Latino vote for granted. We took South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley for granted. And I refused to make that same mistake. These voters, like a lot of voters across Texas, are looking for change. And it's why they supported President Trump in the last election. And it's why they supported me in this election. They desperately want to bring down costs so that they can get ahead in this economy -- the price of groceries, the price of gas and diesel, the price of health care. And it's what we were speaking about on the trail. They want to see real progress on immigration. They were upset with the previous administration because of the failures on our southern border. And I think they're upset by some of the extremism now that we're seeing with masked men in unmarked vehicles, kidnapping people off our streets, and sometimes killing our neighbors like Lorenzo Salgado in Houston. They're just looking for common sense. They want leaders who are going to bring down costs, who are going to bring some sanity back to our immigration policy, back to our foreign policy. And I hope that's what we can do on a bipartisan basis.”
