Perino: There Was Some Hope of a ‘Silver Wave’ Tonight
EXCERPT:
PERINO: “I also believe that when you are scrolling, if it says Medicare for all, you're like, 'Yeah, I’m for that.' You're moving on and you're watching the football game and you're learning how to put a French hairpin in your hair. It's just like, there's so much going on. And I think younger people are more targeted by campaigns now, so they are getting a lot of content. I just was -- this was just pointed out to me. A first-time voter, somebody who is 18 this year, was born in 2008, right, and was only 8 years old when President Trump won office, went through Covid for middle school years, the worst years of any person’s teenage life, nobody ever wants to do those years again, let alone do them during Covid, and you have all these things happening. At the same time, you had this technological shift. So the way people get news is very different from how all of us, how we ever did. I think in some ways we don’t put ourselves in their shoes enough- There was some hope by people that I follow that there would be a silver wave tonight and that all the older people were going to come out and vote. Now, we will wait and see how that looks, but I also think the younger people were engaged.”
