Van Jones: Haley Stevens Consolidated the Democratic Party Behind Abdul El-Sayed Which Was Inconceivable 48 Hours Ago

‘But if you go from challenging hate in our party, but then you hug and French kiss MAGA’

EXCERPT:

JONES: “Her decision to do this has consolidated the Democratic Party behind and around Abdul in a way that was inconceivable 48 hours ago. And it comes down to a couple of things. One is, if you’re -- she was playing this moral role of challenging Abdul to do better against some of the hate that was showing up in this campaign. But if you go from challenging hate in our party, but then you hug and French-kiss MAGA and you don’t say anything about the hate coming from their campaign, all the anti-Muslim hate, then you kind of fall between two chairs. So I think she’s lost a lot of moral authority. The other thing is, which we haven’t talked about enough, she chose to do this in front of a black church. That was an error because a lot of black people thought, 'What is this woman doing using our church as a prop for this stunt?' And it sent a real wave of anger through the black community.”
