Kornacki: Donald Trump’s Approval Rating, Pre-Election, 40% Approval, and 60% on the Disapproved Side

‘In 2018, the economy was his strong suit, nearly 70% of voters on the eve of that midterm’

RUSH EXCERPT:
KORNACKI: “Good morning, this is our final temperature check before we get those votes coming in on Tuesday so where do things stand? Donald Trump’s approval rating, pre-election, 40% approval, and 60% on the disapproved side. Remember, this is Trump’s second midterm. In 2018, Republicans lost control of the house, lost 40 seats and they were okay in the Senate that year. What was his approval rating headed into that midterm, it was higher, it was 46% and our final poll them. So by this metric, he is in worse shape heading into his second midterm then into his first one. There’s also the generic ballot, which party would you like to see control Congress? The advantage is 70 points to the Democrats, 52 to 45, that’s an uptick of two points from when we last pulled this around labor day and compare this to 2018, the two most recent midterms, it was dead even before the 2022 midterms, a 6- point edge for Republicans back in 2018. So what are the ingredients going into these numbers here, overwhelmingly, it is this, how do you feel about the current state of the economy? Nearly 1/4 of voters say they are satisfied, almost 3 quarters say they are dissatisfied. Compare this to the first midterm in 2018 for Trump, I think this is why his standing in that approval rating is lower because look at this, in 2018, the economy was his strong suit, nearly 70% of voters on the eve of that midterm are satisfied. Total opposite right now”
