Amy Acton: ‘I’ve Been Fighting My Entire Life to Make Life Better for Folks’
RUSH EXCERPT:
ACTON: “Thank you both so much. First of all, I just want to say thank you for your thoughtful coverage of this story early on. It isn’t an easy story. It’s a sad story. It is my story. I am a doctor. I’m not a politician, but I’m a lifelong public servant. And I’ve been fighting my entire life to make life better for folks, because I know what it feels like to be left behind. I know what it feels like to be hungry or not have the heat on, or be just struggling. And right now in my state, people are struggling. They’re working harder than they ever have. There’s no more breathing room left. And that’s why I’m fighting to make our state affordable. I’m fighting against a guy who thinks Medicaid and Medicare are mistakes and wants to completely dismantle it. While people are going an hour and 15 minutes in my state to deliver a baby or have a kid’s cavity filled.”
