Abdul El-Sayed Dodges on If He’d Be Okay Passing Universal Health Care Which Wouldn’t Cover Puberty Blockers for Minors

‘I think there are a lot of people who want to distract us from the fact that our politics have not addressed the material needs of our lives by trying to make politics about culture war’

EXCERPT:

EL-SAYED: “You know, Saagar, that’s a hypothetical, but the question really is, what is government for? Like, what is our politics really about? And I think there are a lot of people who want to distract us from the fact that our politics have not addressed the material needs of our lives, by trying to make politics about culture war. To me, it’s not even about culture wars, it’s just about rights. It’s about whether or not we stand up against the tyranny of government to tell people how they get to live their lives or not. And to me, that there is, though, the real question. So, to me, right are rights are rights are rights. And the question of the kind of health care that you can get is a choice between you, your doctor, and, if you’re under 18, your parent.”
