Liz Cheney: Trump Speaks About Opposition to Socialism While Taxpayer Dollars Are Used to Take Stakes in Companies

‘The U.S. gov’t takes stakes at private companies at a level we haven’t seen before’

EXCERPT:

CHENEY: "It’s an interesting phenomenon for a number of reasons, including because, you know, it’s not — it’s not conservative. I’m constantly sort of surprised, for example, by the extent to which the president, people around him speak about how opposed they are to socialism — which I agree, we should be opposed to socialism — but this president has used taxpayer dollars to take stakes in private companies, to have U.S. government take stakes in private companies on a level that we haven’t seen before. And it’s just sort of one example of this fundamental move away from what the party used to stand for. The other place I think this is very evident is what’s happening in Russia and Ukraine and the extent to which this administration has not just made a decision that America won’t be involved, President Trump has put us firmly on the side, he’s attempting to put us firmly on the side of Vladimir Putin and to be in a situation where we’re essentially rewarding the Russians, providing financial incentives to the Russians, while we know they have provided and may still be providing intelligence that allows Iranians to target Americans, to target our men and women in uniform. And to be looking the other way and aligning us with Putin and against the forces of freedom is a fundamental departure from where the Republican Party has been in the past."
