Mollie Hemingway: Democrats Have an Elitism Problem
TRANSCRIPT:
HEMINGWAY: "You know, some of the criticism of that line came from Republicans, but some came from Democrats as well. One of of the — Evan Barker, former Democrat campaign strategist, said 'You know, does he not realize that for most Americans, a night out at the Cheesecake Factory is actually a really nice meal for those of us who don’t have private chefs at our homes in Martha’s Vineyard and Washington, D.C.?' And, you know, this — I think that people thought that line was really good, but it kind of speaks to some problems that the Democratic Party is having in understanding the plight of the working class. They’ve done much more poorly with those voters. And Barack Obama himself seems to care so much about elite opinion, which is how that design happened in Chicago. That’s the kind of design for his museum that elitists think is really beautiful and is actually not. And so I think that this is another issue that Democrats have to think about if they're going to be actually for the working man or not."
