ABC Seattle: Audit Finds the City’s Homelessness Agency Is Missing $16.7 Million, & Is Now Facing a $34 Million Shortfall
‘And we know from that audit half of it is unrecoverable’
EXCERPT:
SHEN: "Leaders of the King County Regional Homelessness Authority are answering questions about nearly $17 million in missing money."
KOOPMANS: "This comes after an independent firm found the agency overspent its budget, and the funds may never be recovered. KOMO's Jackie Kent is live in Seattle with what went wrong and what’s changing. Jackie?"
KENT: "Well, we are learning the KCRHA is facing a total shortfall of $34 million. And we know from that audit, half of it is unrecoverable. Now, budget chair and county council member Rod Dembowski tells me this is an issue of overspending on staffing plus interest fees, and he believes this agency isn’t working anymore."
