Sec. Duffy on FAA Modernization: This Is Going to Make Sure We Don’t Have to Go Replace 40-Year-Old Parts When Our Radar Breaks Down

‘We get better information to give to airplanes and controllers to make the airspace safer’

EXCERPT:

DUFFY: “Some of the radars that we use today in American airspace date back to the 1970s. So, think of a computer system from the ‘70s and ‘80s, massive infrastructure, old technology. So, today this technology is going to — by the way, building right behind me, I’m in Largo, Florida. American jobs, American innovation going to be deployed in the American airspace. What this is going to do is make sure we don’t have to go replace, you know, 40-year-old parts when our radar break down, number one. But, number two, this is more precise. We get better information off these radar giving it to airplanes and to controllers to make sure the airspace is safer.”
