VP Vance: You Can’t Talk About the Riots in France ‘Without Acknowledging the Role of Migration’
EXCERPT:
VANCE: “Well, I don’t think you can talk about what’s happening in France without acknowledging the role of migration, because in the neighborhoods where you see the most significant violence, the most significant outburst, the burning of these beautiful historical buildings, you often have neighborhoods with extremely high immigrant populations. And I think the question that we have to ask ourselves as Western societies is, yes, we want to be welcoming to people, but when we allow someone into our country, are they culturally compatible? Are they willing to assimilate into Western values and Western society, or do they expect to bring a lot of rancor and a lot of division, a lot of violence with them? So, I think we have to be a lot tougher on ourselves, frankly, and forcing ourselves to ask the question of whether a newcomer into our country is willing to assimilate.”
