Mike Rogers: If We Don’t Fix Education, ‘We’re in Trouble,’ There’s 90% Chance Kids Who Can’t Read in Fourth Grade Will Go to Prison

‘We’re going to get Michigan back to the work belt and the envy of the country’

RUSH EXCERPT:

ROGERS: “Thank you. That’s why my wife and I decided to run for this election again. If you look at where we are, eight years of Democrats, we lost 27,000 manufacturing jobs. Highest utility rates in the midwest. Highest auto insurance in the nation. New homeownership, the average age now in Michigan, 40 years old. What we’re going to do is getting back to make sure our kids are educated. Have a housing plan that gets young adults in to housing early if they so decide. Bringing back defense industrial based work. Real quickly on the education. If we don’t fix this we’re in trouble. 2/3s of the fourth graders can’t read in the fourth grade. A 70% chance to going to prison and being on welfare if you can’t read in the fourth grade. I have a plan to change that to get kids reading again. We’re going to put shop back in high school. We’re going to get Michigan back to the work belt and the envy of the country within the first six years I guarantee it.”
