Katty Kay on Abdul El-Sayed: ‘An Excellent Communicator’ Facing Concerns Over Black Voter Outreach

‘He has charisma’

EXCERPT:

KAY: “Look, I think it is going to be a tight race. I spent a day, I went to a couple of rallies with Abdul El-Sayed. I got a little bit of time with him. I was at that event of about 300 people in Caro, Michigan where a young man stood up and asked him if he would disavow the Muslim Brotherhood. He said yes, and then spent a few minutes teaching the young guy about the Constitution. I spoke to several Democrats around the state and Democratic operatives around the state who are concerned that he isn’t — that Abdul El-Sayed is not doing enough to reach out to black voters specifically, and when he does he’s not specifically addressing their concerns. He seems to think that he can run the tables with young voters and that young voters will turn out. I mean, he’s a — he is — he’s a really interesting politician, Joe. He’s — he’s one of those guys, you walk into a room.”
SCARBOROUGH: “Yeah.”
KAY: “He has charisma. He — he had this room of three or four hundred people eating out of the palm of his hand. He’s an excellent communicator.”
