David Axelrod: Mike Rogers Wants a Discussion About Abdul El-Sayed’s Background Because It’s Better than Focusing on the Economy
EXCERPT:
AXELROD: “Can I just translate this for people who may have tuned in and wondered what’s going on here? What’s going on here is the president is in some political trouble here. He’s in political trouble because of the war. He’s in political trouble because of inflation. He’s in political — in political trouble because of concerns about corruption. All of these things are weighing Republican candidates down all over the country. And Mike Rogers, in their debate, in the advertising he’s running and so on, he wants this discussion. So getting back to your first question, he wants this discussion because it’s a better discussion for him than the state of the economy and the president’s policies and the war, all of which he’s tried to run away from in the last few weeks. So this is a standard tactic.”
