Scott Jennings: J.D. Vance ‘Opened the Door at Not Running’ in 2028 — ‘Historically Difficult’ to Follow a Two-Term President
EXCERPT:
JENNINGS: “I mean, he opened the door to not running, I think, in this interview. And when you‘re trying to follow a two-term president, I think this underscores how historically difficult that has been. It‘s only happened a few times and not — and not all that many times in modern history. And so, this is a preview of what he can expect if he were to actually run and go out and try to follow President Trump. It‘s not going to be easy. I think it could be done because he‘s quite likely to be running against a Democrat who I think will be way far outside of the mainstream, so I don‘t discount the possibility he could buck the historical trend here. But these kinds of questions and talking about why we need to continue on, he‘ll also have to find some ways to to say, 'I would have done some things differently and here's my own program,' and build his own coalition."
