Kamala Harris on Redistricting: ‘Backdoor Racism Through the Door of Politics ... They’re Going Back to a Jim Crow South

‘It is estimated we could lose as many as 200 state black legislators in the South’

TRANSCRIPT:

HARRIS: “My work has been about saying we got to — we got to fight for these issues and we have to call it what it is. So part of what I’ve been talking about is that that decision basically they said well you know it’s politics, it’s OK if they redistrict around race because it’s just politics. No. And so what I’ve been saying, because it is what I absolutely believe, no, they have backdoored racism through the door of politics, and we have to call it what it is. They’re going back to a Jim Crow South on the issue of voting. Because of that decision it is estimated we could lose as many as 200 state black legislators in the South.”
