Max Rose: Livestreaming the Execution of the Fort Hood Terrorist Is a ‘Question About the Dignity of the United States of America’

‘[ISIS] are the last ones that I can remember that engaged in live stream executions that had a, you know, cinematic quality to them’

EXCERPT:

ROSE: “I can tell you there’s not one veteran I know or service member I know that doesn’t want this guy to suffer for the rest of his life for the crimes and the murders that he committed. That’s not the point here. The point is not whether or not we let him leave. The point is really — I mean, honestly, it’s not even a death penalty conversation — I say that as an opponent of the death penalty — this is a question about dignity of the United States of America. It’s a question of, you brought up ISIS. They’re the last ones that I can remember that engaged in livestream executions that had a cinematic quality to them. Is that who we are? Is that the character of the United States of America? Every veteran that I know would say, no, that’s not who we are. And that’s where I think the rubber meets the road on this issue.”
