Joy Reid Says the U.S. Now Behaves ‘More Egregiously’ than Saudi Arabia & North Korea

REID: “Donald Trump has given ISIS and al-Qaeda an incredible propaganda victory, because his government kidnaps people off the street like Salvador Allende's old government in Chile. They attack, physically attack protesters in the street just like they do in Iran. You can go to jail or be deported for writing an op-ed and having the wrong public opinion, just like happens in Russia or North Korea or China. They censor the Internet in much the way China does. They censor reality like Russia does, by getting big companies like Google to rename bodies of water which have not been renamed, like the Gulf of Mexico. They're literally changing reality and using explicit extravagant violence both to terrify and terrorize their own population and to demonstrate the world who the new America is, an authoritarian Iran-like autocracy. And so how can we then say we're better than Iran? We're better than the mullahs in Iran, or the Taliban in Afghanistan, or the dictator of North Korea, or the Saudi Arabian dictatorship? How can we say we're better than them, because we behave in some ways more egregiously than they do? Even Saudi Arabia and North Korea are no longer televising executions at the same rate. Now we're going to do it.”
