Sec. Sonderling: If You Can Suppress Wages and Pay 25-35% Less Wages by Bringing in Foreign Workers, Companies Have Abused That

‘And they’ve abused that on the back of American workers’

RUSH EXCERPT:
SONDERLING: "Yeah we’ve made a mission in this administration to eliminate fraud across the board And at the Department of Labor we’re looking into all types of frauds in all workforce programs and workplace programs And here’s the H1B program which you’ve talked about for a long time A lot of people have been very critical Because I want to take a step back of what you said In this administration President Trump and Department of Labor believes American workers are the greatest and best in the world And they absolutely have the skills to take these jobs So you have this H1B program that has been around for specialized occupations and skills that we don’t have And as you, rightly noted the jobs are going to basic software consultants, engineers, IT technicians across the board And that, American workers have the skills for they’re just not given the opportunity because the way the program was designed And if you can suppress wages and pay 25 to 35 percent less wages by bringing in foreign workers companies have abused that and they’ve abused that on the back of American workers And that’s why today’s announcement was so historic So, as my authority as labor secretary I have the ability to suspend companies applying for a perm program Now, what does that mean? So you’re here for an H-1B visa Again, it’s supposed to be temporary right? Three years and then possibly extended another three years so six years max but that’s not what happens These workers come here they take American jobs and they stay, they wind up getting green cards and they become citizens So that’s what’s changing today"
