Van Lathan to Conservative CNN Panelists: People Like You ‘Lie,’ ‘Play on the Deepest Fears’ to Paint Abdul El-Sayed as a Terrorist

‘Play on the deepest fears that a lot of the American public has’

EXCERPT:

ROTHMAN: “Are you not disturbed by the level of comfort that he evinces with people who do set out to kill Americans, kill Jews, kill civilians?"
LATHAN: "Nope. I‘m not concerned with any of that, because all of that is a lie. All of that is a concoction by people like yourselves, all due respect, however you want to take it."
MEIJER: "It didn‘t sound like a very respectful thing to say. Help me understand how that's a lie."
LATHAN: "Well, it‘s a lie. What you guys seek to do is to, like, play on the deepest fears that a lot of the American public has — "
ROTHMAN: "What have we misrepresented?"
LATHAN: " — in order to discredit him, right?"
ROTHMAN: "You've accused a very serious accusation. What have we said wrong?"
LATHAN: "I have asked you guys both like a direct question, because before this, because let‘s just talk about this, before this, both of you went through different reasons why you don‘t trust Abdul El-Sayed and why he might be a sympathizer with terrorism, or he hasn‘t full-throatedly enough rebuked terrorism for you guys."
MEIEJR: "Hasn‘t rebuked, period. I mean, refuses to condemn."
