Abdul El-Sayed Thinks Michigan Business Owners Are Successful Because They’re Privileged: We Want DEI
‘Those are things that we want in our society’
EXCERPT:
EL-SAYED: “Diversity, equity, inclusion are not bad words. Those are things that we want in our society. We want everybody to be able to thrive, to come together. If you've got a great idea, you should be able to compete. But for too long, we've watched as a number of institutions implicitly or explicitly discriminated against certain groups of people. It's why our business owners don't necessarily look like the rest of the community. And so not only do you need to make sure that the folks that you're funding and investing in look like the communities in which they live and operate, but you've got to make sure that you don't just create a circumstance where winners always win.”
