Sen. Coons: Focusing on Far-Right, DSA Candidates Is a ‘Distraction’

‘We’ve got a lot of candidates running for the Senate’

EXCERPT:

COONS: “I was here last night with Chris Pappas from New Hampshire. I've recently been here with Roy Cooper from North Carolina. We are running centrist candidates. There is a range in both parties, particularly in the House. You've got members of the far left and far right, and the more we spend time focusing on, you know, Marjorie Taylor Greene and Ilhan Omar, rather than the vast majority of the members of the House who actually are a part of moving things forward, the more we allow the distraction and the entertainment value --" [crosstalk]
SORKIN: "Right. But even if you're -- even if you're right, don't you think that that unto itself creates a distraction and frankly allows for someone like Rick Scott to say what he says, if you believe that is the case?"
COONS: "Right. So, I started by saying I passed five bipartisan bills last week."
SORKIN: "Right."
COONS: "At the end of the day, I represent a state that rewards that, that wants and recognizes that I both stand up to Trump in extreme cases where he's violating core values and interests, and work across the aisle to get things to his desk for him to sign that solve problems."
