Mara Gay Warns of Flaws in Democratic Fundraising Strategy: ‘The Donors Don’t Get a Full Sense of the Landscape’
‘Those conversations, in my experience, tend to be very insular’
EXCERPT:
GAY: “We don't talk a lot about the process of how those Democratic donors are recruited and cultivated. But actually, you know, those conversations, in my experience, tend to be very insular. They tend to happen between just a handful of Democratic officials who go out and cultivate these relationships. And in some ways that works for the party, but in other ways, the donors don't get a full sense of the landscape that they need. And of course, you have really talented candidates across the party like Cooper, like Ossoff, who kind of are independent in that and they make their own relationships. But I think the Democrats do have a problem. They have to get their donors to be a little bit more bullish on races outside the box.”
