Steve Kornacki on Trump: With Latino Voters, Where They Have Trouble Is with Immigration Enforcement, 60% Opposition Here

‘To deport the undocumented who committed serious crime, overwhelming support’

RUSH EXCERPT:
KORNACKI: "Absolutely. Again, we see with all voters, low marks here and digging deeper with Latino voters asking, first of all, what kind of approach would the voters like to see? To deport the undocumented who committed serious crime, overwhelming support. Pathway for citizenship, those who came as a child where they have trouble with the president, deporting all of the undocumented. The more maximalist approach, immigration enforcement his administration has taken, 60% opposition there. Then we ask this on-the-ground experience here with the policies among latinos. Have you started carrying I.D. Because of ICE or know someone who did? Nearly one-third. About a quarter say they know someone who has deported and detained by ICE and considered leaving the U.S. Because of ICE concerns and nearly one in five, kristen. Very fascinating on the ground experience, but don’t lose sight of what we were talking about, asking Latino voters what the most important issue is to them, it is cost of living, jobs and economy down here. That’s a combined 43%. In fact, if you compare that to all voters, look at this, among all voters, there’s the cost of living and the economy, more focused Latino voters are on the economy and cost of living than the electorate as a whole here and take it to the midterms and which party would do a bigger job and it’s the economy and there is an advantage on immigration and their parties are still even on the border. Again, if the economy and inflation is driving it, the parties here, this has been a big change in the last couple of years in our polling. The Republican Party was 46 negative with latinos two years ago and look at that jump. 62% negative among Democrats, basically flat."
