Buttigieg: There’s a ‘Very Strong Pattern’ in How Trump Administration Has Denied Promotions to Black Officers and Women
RUSH EXCERPT:
BUTTIGIEG: "Yeah. Look, when I was serving, the most amazing thing about being with fellow Americans was that sometimes we had nothing in common but the flag on our shoulder in that war zone. And we immediately formed bonds of trust and teamwork and got hard things done together. If I was assembling a crew to get in my vehicle and go outside the wire to take some gear between Kabul and Bagram or get somebody from one base to another. Nobody was checking to see how we voted. Nobody cared if I was going home to a girlfriend or a boyfriend. We were all from different parts of the country. We had all kinds of differences racial, religious, you name it. But we were a team and that is the best thing about the military, how it brings people together like that. And the worst thing about the political leadership overseeing the military right now is they view it as the opposite. There is a very strong pattern in how they have denied promotions to black officers, to women. And of course, that is devastating for the cohesion of the military, for morale.”
