Chicago Mayor Johnson: New Taxes Are the Best, Most Reliable Revenue to Plug the Budget Hole
‘As you know, I reopened three mental health clinics and we’ve expanded care’
EXCERPT:
JOHNSON: “Well, if you look at what I introduced last year, the social media amusement responsibility tax. It's a tax on big tech companies, and these revenues are going directly towards mental and behavioral health services. As you know, I reopened three mental health clinics and we've expanded care, and so now when there's a mental health crisis, a paid behavioral mental health crisis professional shows up instead of a police officer, so that frees up law enforcement to respond to many of the other challenges that we are experiencing in our city, and that revenue source was so fitting that the state of Illinois followed my lead and they implemented the same one.”
