Lawrence, Mass. Dem Mayor Is Refusing to Resign Despite Being Arrested for Embezzling & Money Laundering More than $1.5 Million in Covid Funds

ANCHOR: “All right, the recently arrested mayor of Lawrence says he's not resigning. Mayor Brian DePeña is staying on the job despite facing a number of criminal charges. Last month he was arrested for more than $1.5 million in allegedly fraudulent Covid loans. Prosecutors say he used the money to pay for his campaign, to pay personal taxes and mortgages. Then just last week, a grand jury indicted DePeña on 15 charges related to alleged wiretapping at City Hall. He says he respects the legal process and his focus is on the work of the city.”
