FBN’s Varney: President Trump Could Lose Congress ‘Just as His Policies Bring Real Prosperity’
EXCERPT:
VARNEY: “The president's party could lose the House, maybe the Senate. As we approach the midterms, economic growth has actually accelerated. This is a good thing. The unemployment rate remains at a low 4%, and we are spending money. Now this is normally what politicians want right before a big election. So why the disconnect? Strong economy, yet low approval on the economy. Part of the problem is that voters don't sit around the proverbial kitchen table and talk about economic growth. They don't usually discuss changes in the unemployment rate. They don't toss around statistics. Economic theory doesn't come up much. Instead, the talk is more likely to be about how much it costs to fill the tank. $4 gas is kitchen table economics. That's the inflation we see every day. That's the inflation we feel every day. You don't feel economic growth. Perhaps the President should keep talking about stock prices. The value of your 401(k) is surely a topic of conversation around that proverbial kitchen table. The president can take credit for the rally. There are, by the way, now 769,000 401(k) accounts with over a million dollars. It would be ironic if things go badly in the midterms, the president could lose Congress just as his policies bring real prosperity.”
