Scott Jennings: Republicans Going Soft and Criticizing Trump on Immigration Is Not a Good Idea
TRANSCRIPT:
JENNINGS: "Well, first of all, I think the vast majority of Republicans support the president‘s immigration agenda, whether it‘s on deportations or on how he secured the border. That‘s number one. Number two, I think it‘s always been true, and we‘ve talked about it here before, there is some tension on policy inside the Republican coalition. You have people who are very hard-line, they want all deportations all the time, no questions asked, no criteria. And then you do have agriculture interests and some other business interests that have a difference of opinion. It seems maybe that Senator Justice was responding to some of those folks, because, as you referenced, he is on the Senate Agriculture Committee. I think, as it relates to Republican enthusiasm for the election, going soft on immigration and criticizing the president over it in a red state, not a great idea, in my opinion. If you want Republicans to show up and turn out seemingly giving oxygen to Democratic arguments against Donald Trump on education, I don't personally believe it's the way to do it."
