Xavier Becerra Says He’ll Reward Teachers After Steve Hilton Accuses of Him of Being Sponsored by the Teachers Union

EXCERPT:

HILTON: “We need to use phonics in our school system to teach kids to read. We need accountability for teachers and for individual schools. None of that will happen because he is sponsored by the teacher unions that have been such a big part of the problem in California."
TAPPER: "Secretary Becerra?"
BECERRA: "Well, he attacks teachers. He‘s made that very clear. He doesn‘t like teachers. I believe that the people who are supposed to train our kids should be treated like professionals. They are underpaid compared to professionals with similar education levels. He attacks them. He says they‘re doing the wrong thing for our kids. These are the people we put our children‘s futures in. We should treat them like real professionals and reward them like real professionals. That‘s what I‘ll do."
