JENNINGS: “I don‘t know if any minds were changed, but I think the contours of this debate and this choice are pretty well-established. Democrats are running the state. The state kind of sucks. There is a different alternative, but can he overcome the national political environment?"
PHILLIP: "That‘s kind of a pessimistic view, it seems. Is that right?"
JENNINGS: "Pessimistic in what — well, yes, I‘m very pessimistic."
PHILLIP: "That you don‘t think that there‘s going to be something, you know, a surprise upset here."
JENNINGS: "I mean, look, California is a beautiful place with a lot of promise. And my view as a Republican is it‘s been run into the ground by Democrats. They‘re holding it back. And they‘ve had 16 years to do something about it. That was the argument Hilton made. Again, does he have the capacity to change their mind?"
