Dan Merica: The Problem Is That Polls Show That Voters Are Not Happy with What Republicans Have Done with Power in the Last Two Years

‘There are Republicans out there who are deeply worried about their political fortunes’

RUSH EXCERPT:
MERICA: "I mean, he probably believes that. He probably believes that, you know, for the next two years, they would do a lot of what they’ve done for the last two years. But the problem is that polls are showing that voters are not happy with what Republicans have done with power over the last two years. And there are Republicans out there, despite what the president may say, despite what Speaker Johnson said in that interview. There are Republicans out there who are deeply worried about their political fortunes when it comes to these midterm elections, and they point to everything from what you’re showing on the screen right there, polling that shows Democrats are winning on a number of key issues. Gas prices, you know, these these giant prices that are advertised on nearly every street corner in America. And then just broadly vibes. I think that president Donald Trump won in 2024 because the vibes were pretty bad about how America was going and that the administration, then the Biden Administration and Kamala Harris were promising Americans that things would get better and that they didn’t feel that things were getting better. Very similar stories being told right now. And I think you can tell how Republicans feel about this moment based on just where the president is going to travel politically over the next few days. It’s going to Oklahoma. He’s going to Alabama. He’s going to Ohio. I mean, I don’t need to tell you this, but those are three states that Republicans have dominated for years. The battleground of those three is Ohio, and it’s been a Republican stronghold since President Trump won in 2016. That says a great deal about where this battle for the midterms is being fought, at least with President Trump, as a surrogate. And it does raise some warning signs for Republicans that those are the areas that he is focused on, not, you know, the michigans, the Nevada’s the maines of the world that also have these really compelling races."
