Fox N.Y.: Judge Orders Mamdani Administration to Redo Pied-À-Terre Tax Rollout

MCKAY: "This ruling deals a major blow to the Mamdani administration. Staten Island Judge Wayne Ozzi ruling today that the city officials botched the rollout to the pied-à-terre tax and says the city now has to start over. In the ruling, Justice Ozzi sided with the homeowners who filed the lawsuits on two separate issues. First, the judge agreed that the city caused mass confusion when it sent out more than 17,000 notices informing homeowners that they could be subject to this new pied-à-terre tax. The judge ordered that all these past notices be canceled and says the Mamdani administration must now send out new notices that are more carefully tailored. Second, the judge also agreed that the online list of nearly one million properties that the city published could be considered harassment and called it just lazy. Justice Ozzi said that the Mamdani administration has to take down this list and publish a new one that only includes the names of homeowners who are actually subject to this tax.”
