Axios’ Mills: CEOs Regulating A.I. Themselves — What Could Go Wrong?
EXCERPT:
MILLS: "Yeah, CEOs regulating themselves — what could go wrong? Right? And that‘s exactly what we‘re hearing today. You know, I‘m hearing mixed reactions from AI safety experts who I talked to. A lot of the sources telling me they think this is vastly inadequate, that they expected -- and really, we‘re hoping to at least see some specific examples of policy change that could keep AI development a little bit safer. But others are telling me, 'Hey, at least you had all of these tech executives in one room admitting that there‘s a safety problem here and that that is at least a step.' We also had Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, talking about some of the specifics on things like third-party auditors. The companies get to pick who those auditors are in most cases, so a lot of questions about whether that‘s going to move the needle. But some sources telling me, hey, at least it‘s something."
