EMANUEL: “Well, as a person who coined the phrase, never allow a good crisis go to waste, I do think the biggest crisis we have as a country, one of, is the fact that the things that we grew up, you and I, knowing was accessible and affordable is not true for the American people. Now, I have three children, all grown up in their 20s, come from a lovely home and a good education. They’re going to be okay, but that’s not how you keep score. You don’t keep score whether your kids are going to be okay. You keep score whether the American dream is accessible to the American public and to the next generation. And it isn’t. And so that, to me, is the crux. When the American dream became unaffordable is exactly when democracy became unstable. And that is the core. We’ve taken our eye off the ball of making sure that you can have a thriving, strong [inaudible].”
