SULLIVAN: "Well, first, I think it’s important to take a step back and ask, what was Xi Jinping trying to accomplish in this summit? I mean, he’s looking at a situation in which America’s bogged down in a war in the Middle East, is alienating its allies. And where President Trump is floundering with his economy at home and is basically saying, look, I just got to go there, have a good show, come home and let America keep doing what it’s doing. So all he wanted was the pomp and circumstance. President Trump basically just gave that to him and got nothing in return. And the result, I think Thom Tillis put it very well, is this bizarre split screen where President Trump is literally rolling out the red carpet for Xi Jinping, going to Andrews Air Force Base to greet him the first time that’s happened in decades.”
