MS NOW Runs a Segment on ICE Shootings: Are They Just Forgotten Tragedies with No Accountability?

BRZEZINSKI: “And when will the ICE shootings stop, given that there was one just days ago? Setting aside the terror that ICE has brought upon cities and towns across the country, the lives they have disrupted, the children they have traumatized, the people they have, yes, disappeared, set all that aside for a moment if it's possible, and focus on the people who were gunned down on American streets by government agents. On Sunday in Austin, Texas, an ICE officer shot 28-year-old Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, a DoorDash driver, on the job trying to support his family. He survived, but is seriously wounded. What happened? Why was he shot? Why was he put in ICE custody and sleeping on a detention center floor with a bullet still lodged in his back? DHS was so quick to claim he was an illegal, which his lawyer disputes. His family is desperate for answers. They're desperate for him. And as we just showed you, Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who was shot and killed in Minneapolis by an ICE officer back in January, we all saw the video where the ICE agent fumbled with his gun and his phone and then shot her dead through the window of her car. Her last words, 'That's fine, dude. I'm not mad at you.' And Alex Pretti a 37-year-old intensive care nurse. He was shot and killed days later in the same city. We saw the video of him trying to help a woman who had been pushed to the ground before being killed in what appears to be an execution-style shooting. So many questions on both of those cases and just no answers for these devastated families and for the country. The administration immediately blamed the victims. Then Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem called Renee Good a domestic terrorist. She wasn't. The head of Border Patrol said Alex Pretti was there to massacre law enforcement. He wasn't. The government was lying. In Houston, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a father of three, was killed by an ICE agent during a traffic stop after agents had gone looking for someone else. Biddeford, Maine, where Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, a 25-year-old Colombian man, killed during an ICE operation. Community members say that he was a hardworking father who was dedicating to his wife and young child. There's one just simply unbearable through line here, lethal force, competing accounts, incomplete information, and devastated families, also, terrorized communities. A country can enforce its laws, we've learned this, and still insist on the rule of law. It can protect its borders and still demand that the government meet the highest standard when an agent draws a weapon and pulls the trigger. That is not what's happening in America right now. Renee Good, Alex Pretti, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, are they just forgotten tragedies with no accountability? Will Wilber Rafael Garces Perez become the next tragedy that just gets explained away?”
