AG Blanche: It Is Our Duty to Compensate 9/11 Victims

BLANCHE: “Yes. And we’re not, we’re not adversarial to that process. We’re not fighting them. We agree that there’s been litigation around whether individuals, certain people are entitled to compensation or not. That litigation plays out in federal court, and sometimes it just plays out in the civil division to come to an agreement. We want to make sure, it’s our obligation to make sure that every single person that’s entitled to compensation gets it. Now, it’s also our obligation to make sure that people that are not entitled to compensation, that we don’t waste the taxpayers’ money and that’s what we try to do. So yes, there’s definitely litigation, there has been, I expect that there may be some in the future and we’ll continue to do that. We do that from a place of knowing that it’s our solemn obligation and duty to make sure that anybody that was affected negatively by 9/11, whether it’s the victims’ families or health, if you lived in lower Manhattan, or overseas, that you’re compensated.”
