‘Who Is This Guy?’: Thousands of Michiganders Get Misprinted IDs with a Random Black Man’s Face on It
‘I looked at my license and see that this man was on here, and I automatically knew that it wasn’t right’
EXCERPT:
REPORTER (voice-over): "But all jokes aside, it’s a major mix-up. More than 8,000 Michiganders who recently applied for or renewed an enhanced driver’s license received a stranger’s face smiling back at them and a new birth date, January 12, 1967. And on the back, another mistake: no name, just the words 'last name,' 'first name,' 'middle.' In a statement, the secretary of state said the misprints were caused by an error from its vendor affecting a batch printed on August 26. The state stressed the photo, is generic and doesn’t belong to another resident, but many are frustrated, saying no one from the state ever contacted them."
