Abby Phillip Presses Fmr. RNC Spox on $5,000 Dividend: Where Does it Come From? — ‘So, We’re Going to Deficit Spending?’

PIPKO: "He very clearly explained that companies were going to bring in trillions of dollars into our country through investments, through tariff revenue."

PHILLIP: "No. Okay, tariff revenue was $240 billion before it was struck down by the Supreme Court. A majority of that is supposed to be refunded. So, how are we going to get to $1.3 trillion? Where's the math?"

PIPKO: "First of all, many times in our country we give out money that we do not have, so I don't think it's — "

PHILLIP: "Oh, so we're going to deficit spend our way out of this?"

PIPKO: "We're going to — I didn't get to finish my thought."

PHILLIP: "So, where is it — "

PIPKO: "I'm saying if he believes — for example, we're in a $40 trillion deficit, correct? Everyone agrees that's a really bad thing. Both Republicans and Democrats agree. There's only so much you can do. You can raise taxes, which he's not going to do, unlike Democrats. You can cut social programs, or you can try to grow yourself out of it, and that means possibly giving the American people $5,000 each to reinvest it into the country and try to outpace the pain."
