CNN Reporter Breaks Down Dire Economic News: ‘Moving in the Wrong Direction’

‘6.35% at this point last year, and the new numbers we just got this afternoon show the average 30-year fixed rate is now 6.76%’

RUSH EXCERPT:

EGAN: “Why do we care about this? Because Treasuries set the cost of borrowing, really, across the economy — for consumers, for businesses, for governments. The higher these rates go, the more expensive it is to borrow. Take mortgage rates, for instance. They’ve been elevated for a while — two years ago, 6.2%. But look at this: they’re moving in the wrong direction. 6.35% at this point last year, and the new numbers we just got this afternoon show the average 30-year fixed rate is now 6.76%. That’s the highest level since June 2025.”
