J.D. Vance: For 40 Years, the Basic Partisan Economic Consensus Is It Didn’t Matter if We Shipped American Jobs Overseas

‘You have to pay a big fat tariff to bring that stuff back to our country’

TRANSCRIPT:

VANCE: "If the American people give Republicans another chance to govern, we're going to create more prosperity, and we want the American people to share in that prosperity. Again, we have -- for 40 years, my entire life, is a basic bipartisan economic policy consensus is that it did not matter if we shipped American jobs overseas. What the president has done is say that if you want to undercut the wages of American workers, if you want to ship American factories overseas, you have to pay a big fat tariff to bring that stuff back into our country. That has done two things. One, it's generate some revenue for the federal government. But more importantly, it has caused $20 trillion of new investment to come into our country."
