Jon Stewart: NYC Knew There Was Poison in the Air, on the Ground, in Your A/C — But They Covered it Up

‘The memo is entitled Legislative Alternatives to the Fiscal Responsibility for 9-11’

EXCERPT:

STEWART: “And I’m not saying that the information may have changed the outcomes, unfortunately, for their families, but I guarantee you it would not have been the struggle that it was to get people to recognize that what they all knew and what we all knew who live in Downtown Manhattan is that there was poison in the air and on the ground and in the windowsills and in your air conditioners and covering your pets and your clothes, and it stayed there for months. Everyone knew. And now it’s very clear that the city knew as well. And rather than take the steps to ameliorate the damage that that would cause to its citizens and to the people that were down there, they instead covered it up to get back to business as usual. But unfortunately, after 9/11, business will never be usual again. And so I just want to say that the people that are standing up here are heroes. They are. And it’s not just about the past. It’s not just about going into the files and re-litigating how we all knew what we knew was there. It’s about the future."
