Barbara McQuade: ‘Up to 10,000 Ballots’ Could Be Discarded Under a Flawed Mail Voting System

MCQUADE: "Sure, yes. So there’s do happen to comply with the rule when it comes to the bar code. But what they haven’t done is upload their voter file to this portal because it’s not available yet and it’s not working yet. And so it could be that in the end, some of the ballots that are returned get discarded. And there is reporting that not only would the ballot itself be discarded, but any ballot included in that batch could be also discarded, which could be up to 10,000 ballots. So if you simply had the bad luck of mailing your ballot at the same time as someone else mailed the ballot, that gets kicked off this system, it could be that yours is excluded as well. And so it is this potential disenfranchisement that is causing judges to consistently”
