Peter Baker: Trump Declaring the Iran War Over Would Clearly Be ‘an Admission of Defeat’

BAKER: “Well, look, you know, obviously the idea of getting this war over is appealing because it isn't going where he wants it to go and there's no obvious end in sight. There's no strategy that seems to be in place leading toward an eventual victory. However, you define victory. And so, you know, we've heard this throughout history, declare victory and go home, you know, say you've gotten what you want out of it and then end the war. I think this case, though, it will look so clearly to be like an admission of defeat because we have not, in fact, changed the regime, which he talked about doing on day one. We have not, you know, stopped them from having any future pursuit of nuclear weapons.”
