Brianna Lyman on Haitian Illegal Who Walked into Traffic and Died: ‘If They Weren’t Here, The Person Wouldn’t Be Killed’
EXCERPT:
PHILLIP: "I just want to — listen, I want to end the conversation by just being really clear about one thing. Whenever the deaths of Americans, the murder of Americans by anyone is brought up at this table, it is a horrible tragedy. Okay? There‘s no question about that."
LYMAN: "But it‘s preventable when it‘s an illegal alien."
PHILLIP: "Hold on. When it‘s done, it‘s — "
LYMAN: "If they weren‘t here, the person wouldn‘t be killed."
PHILLIP: "It‘s preventable when it‘s done by anyone. So whether t‘s done by an Illegal immigrant, a legal immigrant, an American citizen, it literally does not matter, because all of those are horrible crimes and those people should be punished for them. But just because that happened does not justify other things happening to people who have done nothing wrong. So that‘s the only point that we‘re trying to make."
LYMAN: "Someone choosing to walk onto coming traffic is not something happening to him by the administration."
