Jamie Raskin: House Republicans Move to Freeze Authority to Change Supreme Court’s Size, Surrendering Power Held for Two Centuries

RASKIN: “Well, check it out. Chris. So he’s not only surrendering the the Republicans in Congress are not only surrendering our power over federal property and our power to declare war and our power to impose taxes and tariffs and our power to spend money. But now, what we’re going to be debating on Wednesday is they want a constitutional amendment to freeze the Supreme Court at nine justices. We’ve had the power for more than two centuries to alter the size and composition of the court. It’s happened 7 or 8 different times. But now that they’ve packed and stacked and gerrymandered the Supreme Court by denying hearings to people like Merrick Garland, who never even got a vote in the Judiciary Committee for a year. Now that they’ve done that, they want to freeze it and give away yet another.”
